Watercolour Sketchbooks

This workshop is for adults (18+)

A watercolour sketchbook can be anything you want it to be. It can be filled with quick colour sketches as well as careful, finished paintings, and anything in between. You will be shown different approaches to the kind of things that you can include in your sketchbook and some simple techniques for applying colour. A sketchbook can contain ideas, colour notes, a record of your travels, and whatever else that comes into your head. All reference material and ideas for subject matter will be provided.

What to bring? Materials list.

  • A sketchbook preferably containing watercolour paper, but at least a heavyweight cartridge paper, approximately A5/A4, but no larger. This can be a hardback book, or spiral-bound.
  • All the watercolours that you have. These can be in pans, but preferably in tubes.
  • A watercolour palette.
  • A few watercolour brushes in a variety of sizes including a larger brush for washes.
  • An HB pencil, a sharpener, and a putty rubber.
  • A couple of waterproof black pens in different size widths.
  • Masking tape.
  • Kitchen towel, or tissues

Don’t forget to bring a packed lunch!
The cafe will be open for coffee and cake to buy should you want some.

Cancellation policy.

Please note that a ticketing fee of £2 is included in the price of this workshop and this is not refundable in any circumstance.

If you are unable to attend the workshop and you cancel your attendance more than two weeks prior to the workshop, the ticketing fee above will be retained.  If you cancel less than two weeks before the workshop no fees are refundable.

In the event of City Arts having to cancel the workshop due to participants’ numbers falling below the minimum requirement or government advice changes, we will refund the whole workshop amount.
