The first solo show of artist Heather Tonge ( @heathertongephotography ) whose work captures the Earth’s natural untamed beauty, from the big view to more intimate abstract and minimal simplified landscapes.
Through these images Heather hopes to share her vision of some of Iceland’s natural untamed beauty, from the big view to more intimate, abstract, and minimal simplified landscapes.
The ruggedness and raw beauty of Iceland is extremely appealing, a country that seems to be ‘alive’ with its slowly moving glaciers, icebergs, rumbling and active volcanoes, continental drift, geysers and other geothermal areas. Due to the dynamic nature of the glaciers, ice, and lava, it is often possible to capture unique moments in time.

The ‘Fire’ images were captured during the Fagradalsfjall volcanic eruption in June 2021. Watching the fast flowing lava and hearing the sounds was an incredible and sublime experience. The emerging oozing then cooling lava in the valley presented many opportunities to create some unusual intimate images.
The ‘Ice’ images were made during several visits to the Vatnajökull ice cap glaciers and the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. The black layers in much of the glacial ice is volcanic ash from previous eruptions which settled on the glacier and became embedded following compression by further snowfall.

Heather has enjoyed photography from a young age, and over time, being immersed in the landscape for long periods has become an increasingly indulgent therapeutic and creative escape. Several of Heather’s images have gained recognition in international photography awards and have been featured in Outdoor Photography Magazine.
