Easy Etching (drypoint)

A Printing without a Press workshop with karen Carter

Tuesday 5 March 2024 – 10am to 1pm – ÂŁ40

This workshop is suitable for adults.

Learn this simple but exciting technique to create lovely line and tone images that you can reproduce multiple copies of.

We will be using the technique of drypoint etching to create printing plates on small sheets of soft plastic, scratching the image into the surface and creating tone with sandpaper. These will be inked up in monochrome and prints taken by hand – a process you can easily do at home – before adding in a little colour to produce a variety of images from the same printing plate.

A fun day with plenty of demos and step-by-step instruction. No experience needed.

What to bring?

  • Photos / sketches / subject matter as starting points and reference (we will be working small….approx A6 size)  – feel free to bring images to trace.
  • Drawing pencils, rubber, masking tape, dessert spoon
  • Scrap paper for initial drawings & medium weight cartridge paper for printing
  • Something to carry your prints home in – a glossy magazine is good
