A FABRIC PRINTING workshop with karen Carter
Tuesday 11 June 2024 – 10am to 1pm – £40
This workshop is suitable for adults.
Using handmade stamps and small lino blocks we will explore the wonderful world of repeat patterns and freeform images.
Learn how to create a design that can be used in a variety of ways using simple linear repeats & rotational repeats. If freeform is more your thing we can make a series of small related images that will go together to make small pictures or designs ready for further embellishment.
No previous experience needed in either textiles or printing….this is a playful experimental approach to working on cloth (please note that this is for ‘art textiles’ that won’t need washing rather than practical items).
What to bring?
- Fabric The tutor will bring plain white calico (approx. A4 size)…..however, if you wish to work on larger pieces or experiment on other fabric (plain or coloured) please feel free to bring your own.
- General
- Acrylic paints – titanium white plus any other colours you may
- Mixing palette /old plate, brushes (whatever you have),
- Kitchen sponge, kitchen roll,
- Black felt-tip pen or marker
- A hairdryer if you have one to speed up drying times
- Apron /old shirt
- Printing If you have your own lino-cutting tools please feel free to bring them – the tutor will have tools to borrow
The tutor will bring all the materials needed to make your own stamping blocks

If you feel unwell please carry out a test and don’t attend if positive to avoid contagion as far as possible of our more vulnerable customers.
Cancellation policy.
Please note that a ticketing fee of £2 is included in the price of this workshop and this is not refundable in any circumstance.
If you are unable to attend the workshop and you cancel your attendance more than two weeks prior to the workshop, the ticketing fee above will be retained. If you cancel less than two weeks before the workshop no fees are refundable.
In the event of City Arts having to cancel the workshop due to participants’ numbers falling below the minimum requirement or government advice changes, we will refund the whole workshop amount.
