Nature’s Printing on Paper and Fabric

An Afternoon workshop printing from nature with Sabrina Talana-Carruth

Saturday 4 March, 2 to 5pm,, £60
This workshop is for teens, adults

This workshop is an introduction to Nature Printing.

Nature printing is a very old technique that was used to record and replicate natural botanical elements like leaves, flowers or whole plants including the roots, using ink to contact print the item onto paper. This technique was used by the first Botanists to enable them to keep a log of new specimens and the prints where often refined by rendering them with watercolours to achieve an honest and realist look.

This technique is quite straightforward and suitable for beginners as well as more advanced creatives.

We are going to use various leaves and black screen-printing ink (nontoxic and water based) to create a contact print onto paper and fabric.

This workshop is divided in various stages to allow the participant to get a feeling of the materials and the technique, practicing on different surfaces and progressing from printing samples on paper to printing on a card and moving to an improved and final print onto fabric.

All materials and tools will be provided.

Participants are free to bring any stationary paper or special plain fabric from home for their own use during the workshop.

Dress for the mess, bring an apron and bring disposable gloves if you wish to wear them.
